galleroo starts with warning

Postby zipper53 » Sat May 21, 2005 4:46 pm

On startup an alertbox pops up saying: Failed to start preview thread.

When feeding galleroo with the necessary data the go-button
changes to a stop-button and nothing happens no matter how long I wait.
(No progress-bar appears, really nothing happens).

OS is Windows XP Prof. Browser IE

Can you help?

This usually happens on Windows 95, 98 or ME. I've never seen or heard of it occuring on XP before.
Galleroo uses a few threads: one for the interface, one for the preview pane and one for generating the gallery. If it can't start threads then it can't really do anything.
I'd like to help you resolve this issue.

Several possibilities for this behavior can be:
1. your system is running low on resources. How many threads do you see running in Task Manager? A reboot could possibly fix this.
2. are you running as a user with enough privileges? For instance, can this user change the time on the machine?

Is this Windows XP SP2?

Xyster:

I'm soo ashamed!

When I started reading your reply I immediately realized that I
was working with 98SE instead of WinXP.
(The tweaked desktops of the both of them look alike on my computers)

Mea Culpa: my fault.

On XP:
Your program works like a charm! Fast and reliable.

There is one thing however that I would like to implement.

That after hitting a thumbnail the viewed picture could be hit again
to see the original resolution.
I could do that with some added HTML, but it would be a real bonus
if you would implement it.

I've experimented with Styles: just perfect.
Themes: that's a thing I haven't experimented with yet.

Thanks and again sorry for my lack of attention,

Jaap

Jaap,

You can enable the three stage (thumbnail->slide->full) image ladder by enabling the 'Do Three Stage' option in the 'Advanced' tab. This option is available for Tavla, Pratim, Digum and Recima.

Don't worry about the mistake. It happens to everyone.

Xyster!

That 's obviously the answer to the question.

Thanks very much.

I'll be happy to experiment with it.
